Careers at opensignal
The modern smartphone is a symphony of different sensors that can measure changes in the world in a more advanced way than ever before. We think of them as a probe-in-your-pocket that turns the world into a giant laboratory that we can study. The latest models are equipped with ever more sensors - up to 15+ on each device - and with over 2 billion smartphones in the world we have billions of new eyes through which to see the world and our vision is to harness the possibilities that arise from this sensor revolution.Open roles
We have built the most exhaustive dataset on the wireless industry to date through leveraging mobile sensors. This data is directly measured from consumer devices as opposed to traditional methods of simulating or approximating mobile experience. Headquartered in London, we are the de-facto source of insight into mobile coverage and performance globally. We increase transparency in the wireless industry by publishing reports on the quality of mobile networks, offering unbiased coverage maps and empowering people with the tools they need to get better mobile connectivity in a hassle free way.Open roles
We care about getting work done and the end product, not how you go about it. We encourage frank and open discussion. We work hard but know it's important to enjoy the journey.
We are in search of a driven senior marketing manager to own 360 degree marketing efforts. You have startup and leadership experience as well as strong expertise in mobile app marketing and previous PR success.
You and Your Development:
You are a driven marketing manager with startup and leadership experience as well as strong expertise in consumer product marketing, in particular mobile app growth, and previous PR success. You’ll lead marketing initiatives while being supported by our sales, data and product teams and our co-founders (Sam, James & Brendan) who will welcome your ideas all the time and empower you in developing and executing the marketing strategy.
As OpenSignal grows, you will also grow and take on more responsibilities. In addition to owning 360 degree marketing including brand marketing and B2B marketing, you will grow your team while being involved in strategic company decisions.
You will develop our marketing strategy, lead the marketing team of 3-4 and execute together with strong cross-functional teams. You will build our B2C and B2B brand synonymous with independent expertise in the wireless industry and support the sales team in selling to network operators. And of course, you’ll get plenty of tips along the way from our driven and savvy global sales team lead by Andy.
You will take charge of our app growth to bring the OpenSignal app to millions of people. This includes deciding on app product marketing independently, measuring the impact and applying what worked best. You’ll have Teresa (Product Marketing) and Ellie (Product Manager) to help you learn the ins and outs of the app and execute. You’ll also be defining the PR roadmap to continue maintaining OpenSignal on the global map as a leading player. Kevin, our in-house and experienced journalist, and Johanna (Press Officer) will support in delivering the roadmap.
No one day is the same but this is what it could look like:
You’ll start off your day making sure everyone on the team is working on the right priorities and is not held up by pending decisions on your end or by other leaders - you’ll remove these barriers for your team to run smoothly. Press moves fast, so being on top of wireless news and any press enquiries is crucial. You’ll also regularly check how marketing initiatives such as app store experiments and social media campaigns are performing and decide and implement corrective actions if needed. Owning and strongly managing the public reports roadmap is critical to our success, so you’ll be working on this through aligning marketing, sales, data and founder teams. And lastly, at the end of the day, you’ll go to bed knowing you worked on products that empower people with the information and tools to get better mobile connectivity in a hassle free way.

You lose yourself when coding and you'd rather stop eating than not being able to correct one more method and test whether it works as intended ;) (but really, we encourage lunches together, and afternoon walks to refresh your mind). The urge to write more code gets you up in the morning (that, and an alarm), and sometimes makes you stay late (#midnightcoding). In other words, you love the art of programming and we want you to share that passion when working with us and getting support from our team (and no, working hours are NOT 6 to 23:59).
You love learning and resolving unique and complex technical challenges and our current team will help you get there with lots of tips along the way. On the frontend, you will help in developing our websites (OpenSignal, WifiMapper), coverage maps, data visualization console, and public reports. On the backend, you will help in writing APIs used by our mobile apps and work on the data pipeline that receives and processes terabytes of contributed data. After a day at OpenSignal you’ll go to bed knowing you worked on useful products that empower people with the information and tools to get better mobile connectivity in a hassle free way.
Our stack and workflow:
You have a couple of years of experience in the PR industry and you’re now hungry to work in a fast-paced startup environment where your role is pivotal to the mission from day one. On top of that, you’ll have the autonomy to implement your creative ideas to solve our challenges while still getting support and learning lots. You’ll be the first and only dedicated PR role in our startup and developing this field for us. You’ll also have the opportunity to spread your wings and get involved with other marketing disciplines as you’ll be working very closely with our 4-person marketing team.
You will be the person behind establishing a strong voice for OpenSignal in the wireless industry and putting us on the global map as a leading player. Our dataset and work have already triggered large interest by press and academia including over 5,000 news articles (eg. BBC, TIME) and over 100 scientific journals, but we need you to spread the word even more by:
