Lack of 5G spectrum hurts Poland’s 5G experience

Posted: Apr 25, 2023

Poland compares poorly with other Central and Eastern markets for 5G experience. For 5G Video Experience, 5G Download Speed, and 5G Upload Speed Poland has the lowest average score out of the eight markets. Remarkably, the 5G download and upload speeds experienced by our Polish users are much slower — average 5G download speeds are just 77.8Mbps — than in other nearby international markets. Poland’s challenge is the small amount of new spectrum suitable for 5G services that is available for Polish operators.

We observed that Leavers spent more time with no signal on their old operator compared with the average experience of all users on their original mobile operator’s network. Looking at the experience of our 5G users before they switched operators, Leavers generally observed slower overall download and upload speeds on their old operator, compared to the network averages.

At busy times 5G is more consistent than 4G in Japan

Posted: Mar 30, 2023

In Japan the 5G experience continues to be far superior to older 4G technology. But it’s not only the average experience which is better with 5G, but also the consistency of the mobile experience. At busy times of the day when there are more users awake and more usage of the networks, Opensignal’s latest analysis shows the quality of the 4G experience falls much more than the 5G experience and is more likely to cause users problems.
