German rural 4G users see big differences in 4G Availability and download speeds between operators
Opensignal analyzed the German mobile connectivity divide between urban and rural areas by state and by operator. We found that Telekom users observed the highest 4G Availability in rural areas in 11 out of 13 states.

In our latest report on Germany, Telekom continues to dominate our awards table, keeping hold of four of our national awards. But it's not all plain sailing for Telekom, as we're seeing its lead eroding in several of our metrics, while its 4G Availability and Download Speed Experience scores have statistically not improved.

Understanding why so many German smartphone users are still 3G-only
Opensignal analyzed the mobile experience of our German users who have never accessed mobile data on a 4G network, and found that 81.4% of those 3G-only users likely chose not to upgrade to a 4G subscription or have disabled 4G connections on their phones.
Comparing the mobile experience between Germany’s MVNOs and the major operators
For the most part, our MVNO users experience significantly slower speeds than customers of the host network brands — O2, Telekom and Vodafone — although there are a few notable exceptions such as 1&1 Drillisch and Mobilcom-Debitel where the difference in experience is smaller.
